Hypnotherapy in St Albans session

How and why I work

I came to hypnotherapy through personal experience. I’ve had hypnotherapy and CBT myself, and both played a meaningful role in helping me work through specific challenges. That experience is what first sparked my interest in this field and ultimately led me to train professionally to obtain an advanced diploma (NCFE Level 5), which is considered the 'gold standard' in the UK.

Alongside that, I’ve spent years exploring practices like meditation, brea`thwork, and mindfulness, testing what actually works in real life rather than just in theory. I spent a couple of years living in a Buddhist area of Thailand, where I adopted a more mindful way of living day to day. That gave me a deeper understanding of how mindset, habits, and attention shape how we feel and behave, not just individually but in how we relate to the world around us.

What’s always stood out to me is how powerful the mind is, and how much the stories we tell ourselves can either hold us back or move us forward. A lot of people are aware something isn’t quite working for them, but they don’t always know how to change it. That’s where I focus my work.

our power is in changing the story you tell yourself

Before retraining, I spent a number of years in leadership roles managing teams in corporate environments. I built and led teams within international media agencies, launched new departments from scratch, and later worked as Head of EMEA for a high-growth startup, before moving into a Head of Marketing & Strategy role. The part of the job I consistently found most rewarding was helping people grow, build confidence, and work through challenges. That naturally evolved into a more direct interest in helping people on a one-to-one level.

Now, as a qualified hypnotherapist, I work with people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or not quite where they want to be. My approach is practical and focused, helping you understand what’s going on, shift unhelpful patterns, and move forward in a way that feels realistic and sustainable.

I typically work with people who feel like something isn’t quite right, even if on paper everything looks fine.

That might be you if you:

  • overthink and struggle to switch off
  • feel stuck in patterns you can’t seem to break
  • wake up already thinking about work or what’s ahead
  • feel pressure to perform or keep things together
  • are successful on the outside but not fully settled internally
  • find it hard to relax, be present, or enjoy things properly
  • know what you should be doing but can’t seem to follow through

A lot of the people I work with are used to being capable, driven, and self-aware. They’ve often tried to figure things out on their own, whether that’s through self-help, podcasts, or just pushing through, but something still doesn’t quite click.

They’re not looking for something abstract or overly clinical. They want a practical way to understand what’s going on and actually change it.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy combines two practical approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and hypnosis. It’s not about talking endlessly or exploring your past in vast detail, the focus is more on how your mind is working, and then changing it to suit you better.

The premise being, CBT is the most recommended form of therapy from the NHS which explores how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings, whilst hypnotherapy is a powerful form of delivering such changes in your thoughts, actions and emotions.

By interrupting and changing your automatic responses to situations and beliefs, you start to enact the changes you want to see. Think of it like a filter at the back of your brain which is refreshed and changes how you see the world and yourself within it.
